Optimal Use of Non-Invasive Ventilation in Acute Care Setting. Current Evidence and Best Practices

Noninvasive ventilation, specifically non-invasive positive-pressure ventilation or continuous positive airway pressure delivered by mask, has now become standard care for the management of a number of specific causes of acute respiratory failure. This webinar will focus on a total system approach to achieving optimal use of NIV including device and interface selection, humidification, interface rotation, ventilation, complementary use of HFNT and NIV. This presentation will review the current evidence and best clinical practices available to optimize the use noninvasive ventilation in acute care setting.
After the completion of this activity, the learner will be able to:
Discuss appropriate device and interface selection for non-invasive ventilation
Evaluate different strategies available to optimize NIV usage.
Describe the modalities available to prevent non-invasive ventilation related skin injuries.
Ms. Kaur is currently Research/Quality Improvement Coordinator and Adjunct Faculty in the Department of Cardiopulmonary Sciences at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL. She is the principal investigator in Rush Study on Integrated Pulmonary Index compared to Integrated Weaning Index and High-Risk Factors for Predicting Extubation Failure in Mechanically Ventilated Patients among other on-going research projects. She has published her current research project in several peer-reviewed journals. In 2018 Ms. Kaur was inducted into the AARC Education Section Preceptor Recognition Program.
