Breathe Easy: RN and RT Coordination of Care

Description

Registered Nurses and Respiratory Therapists work together in various areas of the hospital setting, with some aspects of respiratory care overlapping. To support optimal patient care, in support of their respiratory status, a collaboration of care between RNs and RTs is crucial to support the knowledge of the RNs, while utilizing the expertise of the RT staff related to patients’ respiratory status and various modalities of treatments. While an ICU setting is ideal for coordination of care, there is an ability to create a similar workflow in the medical-surgical areas to optimize patients’ respiratory care.

 

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this activity, the participant will be able to:

  1.  Identify ideal state framework for collaborative care

  2. Define procedure-based treatments care that is supported by both RNs and RT

  3.  Outline a future state Medical-Surgical coordination of care
